FOOD4HOPE 2.0 Klang Valley

Background Malaysia’s healthcare system is at its breaking point! On 11 January 2021, the Prime Minister of Malaysia announced the second Movement Control Order (MCO) starting from 13 January 2021. Healthcare systems and hospitals across Malaysia are under tremendous pressure given an average of 3,000 new COVID-19 confirmed cases reported daily. Non-essential economy sectors were ordered to be shut down, causing many Malaysians and non-Malaysian employees who receive per diem allowance or weekly wages to lose their income.

Objective To provide dry food rations for the affected family.

Volunteers from the call desk are required to call the applicants to verify personal information and request for any additional supporting documents where necessary. A summary report is as per below:

2. Warehouse

Due to the MCO, the warehouse can only accommodate 5 persons at any one time. As a result, arrangements are made for the volunteers to report to duty in different shifts whenever there is a heavy operation.

The warehouse serves as a bulk delivery centre where only team leaders are given access to. Applicants and delivery volunteers are not allowed to collect rations from the warehouse. All deliveries are packed before being sent out.

3. Delivery

Rations are delivered within Klang Valley, divided into 3 sectors: Kuala Lumpur, Petaling Jaya & Subang and Shah Alam & Klang according to postal codes. Each sector has an appointed team leader who will coordinate with the volunteers on the delivery process.

As our volunteers are not allowed to travel more than 10 km radius due to the MCO restrictions, volunteers are required to purchase the standard dry food ration according to the prescribed list and budget at a nearby store. Only bulk delivery to places such as welfare homes and community centres is sent out from the warehouse.
