January - March 2025
As communities across the region continued facing the growing challenges of climate related disasters, CREST remained committed to strengthening resilience through long term community engagement, disaster risk reduction, and humanitarian partnerships. We were grateful for the continued support of our donors and partners, which enabled us to sustain both preparedness and recovery initiatives locally and abroad.
1. Laos Community Development and Post-Disaster Follow Up

In January, CREST conducted a post-disaster follow-up mission in Laos following the 2018 Sanamxai flash floods. Beyond providing medical and dental outreach services, the team focused on promoting healthier lifestyles and preventive healthcare practices within the affected communities.
Recognising that sustainable recovery extends beyond short term medical assistance, CREST emphasised health education and lifestyle modifications as part of a broader community development approach. The team also engaged with youths through local Youth Centres, where discussions were conducted on humanitarian work, youth development, and the importance of responsible internet use among younger generations.

These initiatives reflected CREST’s commitment to building stronger and more resilient communities through sustainable and people-centred engagement.

2. Kelantan Flood Risk Reduction and Response
During the monsoon season in Kelantan, CREST continued focusing on disaster risk reduction measures aimed at minimising property loss and improving community preparedness before flood events occurred.

Working alongside the Archdiocesan Office of Human Development (AOHD), a combined team assembled an additional twenty-five flood rafts for communities in Pasir Mas and Rantau Panjang. As several areas became inundated by flood waters, these preparations helped mitigate the impact on affected households and safeguarded essential belongings.
CREST remained committed to proactive disaster management by prioritising preparedness, mitigation, and practical community-based solutions in flood-prone areas.

3. AOHD Summit and Building Resilient Communities
In March, CREST was honoured to participate in the Archdiocesan Office of Human Development (AOHD) Summit. During the event, CREST facilitated workshops on “Building Resilient Communities in Flood-Prone Areas of Kelantan” and “The Role of the Church in Disaster Areas.”

The summit provided an important platform to share experiences and strengthen collaboration among organisations serving vulnerable communities. CREST deeply valued its longstanding partnership with AOHD and looked forward to further meaningful collaboration in humanitarian and community development work.
