First Quarter Summary 2025

January - March 2025

1. Kampung Laut, Skudai & Kampung Kelantan, Kota Tinggi, Johor

Continuous rains have compounded the flood situation in Malaysia. There were 3,965 displaced individuals. About 10% of these are the elderly according to NADMA. In response CREST had mobilised the stockpile supplies of canned food and water. These were kept in key places around Johor state. We are grateful to our donors, churches and local NGOs in Johor Baru, without which, our distribution efforts would not have been possible,

2. Sanamxai, Laos

CREST visited Laos on post disaster follow up after the 2018 Sanamxai flash floods. During medical and dental camps, we dispensed advice for healthy lifestyles and lifestyle modifications. Health promotion is more effective and sustainable than running medical camps alone. We aim at sustainable projects that brings long term well being to these communities. We engage with the younger people in Youth Centres. Talks related to humanitarian work, importance of internet among the young and youth development were given to engage the teenagers. These are the additional layers CREST used to promote community development in different countries.

3. Kelantan Floods

Some supporters have asked why CREST was not immediately visible in the field following the recent floods. In fact, our teams had already been actively working in Kelantan well before the floods occurred. We focused on preparedness efforts, introducing risk reduction strategies designed to help communities minimize property loss during such disasters.

Working alongside our partners from AOHD, a team of eight, we successfully assembled an additional twenty-five emergency rafts in flood-prone areas such as Pasir Mas and Rantau Panjang. While some communities did experience severe flooding, our teams were on the ground, responding swiftly to reduce the impact of rising waters.

This approach—emphasizing both prevention and response—reflects CREST’s long-standing commitment to building resilience and delivering effective, compassionate disaster management. Your continued support makes this possible. Thank you for standing with us and the communities we serve.
